Beirut Works II
SYRIAN REFUGEE WOMEN
For « Embroidererd Identity » we asked Syrian refugee women living in Shatila to embroider on her ID picture. Most of them haven’t any identity document, that’s why they all made selfies that we drew on fabric and they embroidered. Every woman chose the colors and the stitch and during the work they told us their personal stories, their point of view on exile, on the war in Syria and about the fragile situation they are living now.
For « Piece of sky over Syria » we printed on fabric an image composed by several picture of destroyed Syrian houses and we asked to Syrian refugee women to embroider the sky on it. They were free to propose the technique and the color for the sky and during the embroidery we discuss about exile, about their personal stories, the past and the present.
